Day 99: 1Sam 4-8
Fav verse:
‘..Turn your hearts to the LORD and obey him alone; then he will rescue you from the Phillistines.’ 7:3
Reflection:
Living by the world and doing what we see right will never bear fruit. That comes from doing It God’s way, Israel thought that their way would bring them success and when at war the only sought God in their failure. And even when they did decide to include God in their ways they saw to it that God would fit around their plans and they ended up with the ark of God in enemy hands. Whereas Samuel acknowledged God’s will and power and knew that any war was God’s to win. So he submitted control to God through prayer. It is not for us to tell God how best he can be included in our lives. But for us to listen to God and how best we can live our lives.
Day 100: 1Sam 9-11
Fav verse:
‘..But I’m only from the smallest tribe in Israel, and my family is the least important of all the families of that tribe! Why are you talking like this to me?’ 9:21
Reflection:
God’s hand is mightier than any of our swords. He can take any weakness and make it his greatest strength. God can create a whole world in 6 days and have time to rest on the 7th. Then he can take the smallest tribe from Israel and make them their greatest saviours. Never underestimate what God can do for you. Even when you feel like you’re at your weakest, God will always be it is strongest.
Day 101: 1Sam 12-14
Fav verse:
‘Now the Israel men were pressed to exhaustion that day, because Saul had placed them under oath,..’ 14:24
Reflection:
Never be too quick to use the LORDs name for your own advantage. Saul saw his victory as more important than his soldiers right to eat and he used God to threaten them into submission. This would backfire, as his own son would be the one to eat some of the honeycomb first. And when he found out he was not even a little remorseful at making such a plea that could kill his son. Luckily God’s hands was at work and he gave Jonathan a chance to be saved. It will later also be Sauls greed of power that again causes the LORD to reject his claim to the throne. Make sure anything that you do in the LORDs name brings glory and honour to him and not oppression to his people
Day 102: 1Sam 15-17
Fav verse:
‘But the lords had to Samuel.”Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance. But the lord looks at the heart.” 16:7
Reflection:
Our beauty to God is within. God sees our hearts before anything else. David was undermined by his brother, then Saul and Goliath saw him as a small shepherd boy, but God saw him as a king. There is a wonderful saying that represents the story of David and that is often the most beautiful people are not those with spectacular appearance but those with an amazing heart. David has such great trust and faith in God that as a boy, he was willing to fight a 9 foot man because he knew God would always be by his side.
Day 103: 1Sam 18-20
Fav verse:
“They credit David with ten thousand and me with only thousands next though we making him their king!” So from that time on Saul kept a jealous eye on david. 18:8
Reflection:
Jealousy benefits no one and can end up hurting us. More than we attended Saul’s jealousy of David led to God having to put a troubled spirit on him and he even led to him saying harmful things to his own son and even trying to kill him. But most importantly, jealousy hurts God the most as to God you are saying all that God has given you is not enough, especially when jealous of someone living a life that does not represent him. Remember God has a plan for but it must be done in his timing.
Day 104: 1Sam 20-24
Fav verse:
‘Who else would let his enemy get away when he had him in his power? May the Lord reward you well for the kindness you have shown me today.’ 24:19
Reflection:
Keeping calm and being kind to those who have been unkind to you can be one of the hardest things to do. That even the most patient will find troubling. But that kindness is not for you and most definitely not for the one who did wrong. But for Christ, taking revenge on your own is a sign that you believe God is not your advocate and that he will not avenge wrongdoing. Justice and revenge are 2 different things. True justice can only be done by God’s hands. Like David even when given the opportunity to take revenge. Do not listen to those around you. But seek the Holy Spirit and arsk for wisdom on how best to navigate the situation.
Day 105: Psalm 7,27,31,34,52
Fav verse:
‘The LORD says “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name.” 52:14
Reflection:
These Psalms all have one underlying message and that is to have trust. God reigns forever and he never leaves his throne. He will always be mighty and just and he will always love us. So when you seek him and pray in both good and bad days. He will answer, but only in ways that will protect you. He never gives you trouble and even if it finds you, have faith that God is our strongest protection and always comes to our rescue. Just like he did for David.
Your reflections:
What was your favourite Psalms from this week? I really want to spend time re-reading 32 and 34.
What have you learnt about God that you could bring into next week’s reflections?
Many thanks for reading and and join me again next week. God bless you!
